Elmore County


Elmore county has a wide variety of recreational trails to enjoy. Visitors will find 12 miles of some of the best mountain bike single-track Alabama has to offer at the Swayback Bridge Trail or take a 1 mile wooded walk through Corn Creek Park complete with river access and picnic tables overlooking the Coosa River .

Another favorite is the Alabama Nature Center open to the public every third weekend of the month with beautiful ponds and hiking trails or the Bartram Arboretum trail at Fort Toulouse Historic Park.

If it's a short fitness walk you need around a local park, visit the Village Green in Millbrook, Goldstar Park in Wetumpka or Panther Park in Eclectic.

Alabama Nature Center

Description: Lanark and the new Alabama Nature Center contain 350 acres of striking forests, fields, streams, wetlands and ponds that are traversed by five miles of boardwalks and trails in three regions: Still Creek Run, Turkey Ridge, and Hilltop Pass. Trails are only open during certain days of the month so see website for details.

Description: Handicap accessible concrete pedestrian trail through Panther Palace Park.

Bartram Arboretum Trail

City:  Wetumpka
Description: Interpretive wooded trail on the grounds of Fort Toulouse Park. Part of trail is wide and lined with wood mulch and railroad timbers, remainder is typical narrow dirt hiking trail.

Description: Paved walking path along Coosa River through local city park. Complete with deck overlooking river.

Swayback Bridge Trail

Description: 12 miles of some of the best singletrack in Alabama. Located on the shores of Lake Jordan complete with roots, rocks and rolling hills. Home to the annual Attack on Swayback mountain bike race and the Coosa River Challenge Adventure Race.

Alabama Scenic River Trail

City:  Cedar Bluff to Ft. Morgan
Description: Alabama's great new river trail is the longest water trail in any single state of the country, beginning at the Georgia state line and winding its way across nine beautiful lakes. Scenery ranges from magnificent wildlife preserves and steep stone cliffs to the tranquil beauty of the secluded creeks of the Delta region, the second largest delta in the US.
