Description:  

The Rocky Branch Trail is a 5 mile loop hiking trail that ranging from moderate to difficult. From the main trailhead the trail will take you down the mountainside along the banks of the parks namesake, Rocky Branch. This section of the trail is filled with rock formations, wildlife, and seasonal small waterfalls. After a 1.2 mile trek you will come to Primitive Group Camp B. The trail then follows along Rocky Branch eventually meeting back up at the main trailhead.

Trail is a loop trail with several sections that connect to each other inside the Day Use Park.

Special Features:  

Scenic views of the River, abundant wildlife with food plots, wildflower areas, rock formations, historic lock 14 site and overlook, overnight camping at primitive group campsites.

Directions to Trail:  

From Birmingham: Interstate 20/59 take exit 86 (Brookwood/Vance). From exit turn right onto Covered bridge road. Go 5.6 miles and you will come to a red light. Turn left onto AL-216. Go 3.6 miles and turn right when you see a sign for “Rocky Branch Park” which is also Rocky Branch Road. Go 2.2 miles until you see the Rocky Branch Park sign. The main trailhead parking area will be on the right.

Trail Restrictions:  

No ATV`s, horses, or bikes allowed on trail. Can camp only in the 2 primtive group camp areas.

Yes - 2 sets of pit toilets are on the trail. Flush Toilets in the Day Use Park.

Yes - Kiosk at the Main Trailhead Area.

Yes - Can picnic anywhere on the trail. Picnic tables can be found at Group Campsites.

Day Use Park facilites can only be used by hikers who parked in the Day Use Park Trailhead and paid the Day Use Park Entrance Fee.

Trail User Fee:  

No fee for hiking, primtive camping, picnicing, or bank fishing on the trail.

Additional Information:  

Currently trail is a 1.7 mile one way trail that starts in the Day Use Park and ends at either the Old Lock 14 Site and Overlook or the New Main Trailhead Area. In May 2009, renovations will be complete making the trail a 5 mile loop trail.
